[Display] How to maximise the active area of LCDs integrated with touchfoil™

When integrating the visualplanet touchfoil™ behind the bezel of LCD Screens you will need to achieve the maximum touch active area of the display. You must consider the measurements of the following items:

  • The visualplanet touchfoil™
  • The Glass the foil is laminated to
  • The LCD Screen bezel

The visualplanet touchfoil™
The XY array of micro thin sensing wires used with the Projected Capacitance Touch technology creates a border around the edge of the touchfoil. This border is not touch sensitive.

The Glass
The visualplanet touchfoil™ will be laminated to a sheet of glass before being integrated in front of the LCD Screen and behind the LCD Bezel

The Bezel
Once the glass/foil sheet is positioned behind the LCD bezel, it is likely the bezel will overlap the edges of the touchfoil™

Achieving maximum touch active area
To achieve maximum touch active area it is recommended that you:

  • Use visualplanet touchfoil™ with as thin a border as possible
  • Allow a 2mm tolerance between the edges of the touchfoil™ and the edges of the glass
  • Use a sheet of glass that is as large as possible without interfering with the LCD bezel

Once integrated behind the LCD bezel, all touchable areas will be touch sensitive and the inactive area (the border) will be positioned behind the bezel, out of touch from the user.

If you apply the touchfoil™ to a sheet of glass with a tolerance of more than 2mm, when positioned behind the display's bezel the border will be in sight and within reach of the user's touch. However, the user will not achieve any touch interactivity within this area.
